And he's a homebody, preferring cozy nights in to exciting nights out

Toby prefers cuddling up with a book and taking turns with Reader reading aloud from it after smoking

He also likes cooking with Reader and grilling

Toby likes building fires, either inside in the fireplace, or outside in the fire pit

Toby does like to game with Reader, picking co op games like It Takes Two and Little Nightmares 2.

Mostly, Toby is just happy to spend time with his darling. He doesn't care what they do while they're together, as long as they're together.

Toby absolutely loves that Reader cares about him in a romantic capacity

He feels very loved whenever he's with Reader, and has no doubt about their feelings for him

Because of this, Reader is the most beautiful person in the world

It's not a physical thing

Reader could look like a literal ogre

It's Reader's heart and soul that make them beautiful to Toby

Though he won't lie, Reader is at least a solid 8.

But to Toby, Reader is a 10 and he doesn't know how a 6 like him landed them 🤷

Comfort (How would Toby help his SO when they are sick or having mental health problems?)

If Reader is sick physically, Toby is going to do everything in his power to help them feel better

And if Reader is going through something mentally, he doesn't see why he should treat that any differently from normal sick

He's pretty good at making soups and if Reader is running a fever, he'll help them sweat it out using his body heat and blankets

Carries Reader into the shower or runs them a hot bath and then gets in with then to massage aches and pains away

Toby uses little tips and tricks he's picked up here and there to help Reader feel better

And encourages walks in the sunshine, especially if Reader is feeling depressed

And if that's the case, Toby's going to be a complete goofball

Dreams (How does Toby picture his future with his SO?)

Toby has always wanted a normal family

He's got an image in his head

Of him and Reader with a decent sized cabin in the forest line of the mountains in Colorado

The cabin has a full garden, and he and Reader have a few chickens, a few pigs, and a milking cow and its calf

Toby's always wanted a little self sufficient place like that.

In the front of the house, Reader has planted flower beds that the bees around back frequent, as well as butterflies

Around back, besides the beehives, there's a fire pit, patio and hammock, a brick oven in case Reader or Toby have something they'd rather cook with flame.

Very sweet, very cottage core

The house inside is very cozy, decorated in oranges and browns, flannel, and the kitchen is done in bold purples and turquoise.

Toby sits in a brown easy chair, his feet up on a matching ottoman. A little boy with dark blonde hair, darkening every day, just like Toby's when he was small, is running up to him to show him a lizard he caught in the garden

Reader appears from the hallway that leads to the bedrooms, a baby with hair that matches theirs just starting to grow longer

They all look happy, healthy

Toby sees five stars on his bicep as his t-shirt arm pulls up, his face still handsome, though lined with age

Reader has the look of 'tired parent', their eye bags and faint wrinkles matching Toby's

But the lines on both of their faces are lines that show that they smile more than they frown. And they look at each other and the children as if they're the whole Universe

Unconditional love

It's all that Toby's ever wanted and more

Toby definitely prefers for the power dynamic in his relationship to be more equal

Toby is very grateful for Reader

He's never really had much to feel grateful for

It used to be Millie, because she was his sister and they were very close

But after Frank took everything from Toby, even his sister, Toby lost hope for a pretty long while

With Reader, Toby has a reason to be happy again

And he's so thankful for that

He tries to show his gratitude as much as possible

Toby is as honest as he can be with Reader

He wanted Reader to know, under no uncertain circumstances, who and what he is

He does try to spare Reader the gory details though

He knows they have to know he killed someone while he was out

But Reader doesn't have to know how he killed them; their last words/sounds; how long it took them to die; that they begged him to spare them, take them to a hospital, to help them, to kill them faster, etc

That side of Toby can be pretty brutal, and he tries for Reader to see as little of it as possible

Toby even takes the time to clean up before coming home, choosing a different bathroom if he and Reader are staying at the mansion

But he always manages to miss one smear of blood, which Reader finds almost immediately

Like Jeff, Toby and Reader have helped each other to become better people

Toby has helped Reader become even more practical than before, helping them look at things from all perspectives

Toby gets very jealous, very easily

One time, Reader was describing Toby, but referred to him as a "tall, dark and handsome guy", trying to flirt with him

Instead of playing along and grinning, Toby's posture went stiff and Reader could tell he was upset

Curious, Reader continued with the teasing, and Toby ended up pulling Reader so close that it was like he was trying to absorb them into his body

Reader eventually told Toby that he was the "tall dark and handsome" stranger

The tension left Toby in a rush of air and he chuckled softly, embarrassed that he'd been jealous. Of himself

While Toby's kisses are wonderful

They're a little bit sloppy due to his cheek scar and scarring to his lips

They're pretty wet

And Toby tends to do open mouthed kisses because he has an oral fixation.

Toby and Reader's first kiss took place in an abandoned playground Toby had known about in the woods surrounding Forest Lawn

And he did such a good job ignoring it that he never noticed Natalie's plan to get Toby locked up in the state mental hospital in Pueblo.

Toby snorts when he laughs

But he has to be completely relaxed for it to happen

Now that Reader and Toby's relationship is steady and stable, Toby is an absolute pain on missions

His mood is sour, he's snarky and doesn't really let anyone try to lighten the mood

Thinks about Reader and ends up missing them more, which makes him angry that he has to be away from them, so he's grumpy

Will talk about it with Kate or Brian, but no one else. But just because he talks to them doesn't mean he's nice

Is really cagey about getting dressed in front of the other proxies for some reason (under Dirty secret) when he never seemed to be bothered by it before

Toby wasn't in the bedroom when I walked in. I knocked on the bathroom door and got no reply. Closing my eyes, I sent out a searching thread of my awareness and sent it out into the house. I found him talking to Tommy in the kitchen area, which was huge, kitted out like a professional chef's kitchen.

"But what if she doesn't like me?" Tommy asked, his brown eyes full of worry.

"Of course she likes you, Tommy, or she wouldn't talk to you" Toby reassured him.

"No, I mean, what if she doesn't like me like that?"

"Oh" Toby sighed loudly and rubbed the back of his neck, "Um, I'm not really good with that kind of stuff. Do you want to talk to Grace instead?"

"What do you mean you're not good at it? Grace loves you." Tommy wore a stubborn pout, not able to understand.

I covered your mouth to hold back a giggle. Apparently Toby hadn't noticed I was eavesdropping, and I wanted to see what he said. It was cute watching Toby deal with other peoples' emotions, because he was right. He wasn't very good at it.

"Grace is... Different from most women. Really, I was just myself." Toby shrugged, "I don't get why she'd want to love someone like me. But she does. I'm not gonna argue with it."

"So I should just be myself?" Tommy asked this quietly, "But what if she doesn't like that?"

"Then she's not the one" Toby breathed and I felt my heart swell, and had so much to say, but Toby was handling it beautifully. "Anyway, I came to pick up some food for me and Grace. Meeting ran over."

"I think that all the food's been put up now" Tommy said, leading Toby further into the kitchen, "But there's loads of food here! Anything you and Grace could want and more!!"

Toby let out an amused chuff, "Yeah, I'm sure I'll find something. What do you have planned now that work's done?"

Tommy smiled shyly, "I asked Myra if she wanted to go for a night walk."

Toby opened the fridge, "That should be nice. Just keep her close. Sometimes the woods like to play games, and you wouldn't want to lose her, true?" He leaned in and started grabbing containers with his long fingered, scarred hands. I pulled away, not wanting Toby to notice I was there and headed to the shower, stopping at the dresser to pick up some clean underwear and pajamas.

I took a shower, relaxing with the hot water. While drying off, the glint of the gemstones in the ring caught my attention in the mirror. I guessed it was the actual physical representation of the commitment between myelf and Toby. And he wore a ring too, had insisted on it. It was a partnership not an ownership. And he wanted that for the rest of his life.

My breath came short as I thought of a lifetime with Toby. But surely it couldn't be like this forever, one disaster to the next. Toby had told me about how he wanted a house like Caleb's but in the mountains, and how he wanted a garden, to be self sufficient. Did I want that too?

'I mean you could've.'

I looked at my reflection, wrapped in a towel as I combed my hair out.

Yeah. I did.

And instantly, I felt better. I did want that place in the mountains with a garden. More than that, I wanted forever with Toby. He put my mind at ease like a favorite sweater. He could be so commanding, but still had a ton of boyish charm. He ignited a passion in me that I hadn't even been aware of. Honestly, I wished I'd known him sooner.

I tightened the towel around my chest after jumping, "Millie! Jesus Christ don't do that!"

Millie was sitting on the edge of the bathtub, grinning, 'Sorry! It's not like I can just know when you can suddenly hear me, or see me. It's kinda random.'

I hugged my towel to me and joined Millie on the edge of the tub, "Yeah, I guess you're right. What were you saying?"

'Oh! Right... I was saying you could've known Toby earlier. It would've been a longshot though.'

"What?! No. I'd remember-"

'It was at some game. Toby came with me because I wanted to hang out with friends, but he didn't want me going alone.' Millie smiled, 'You know how he is. Anyway, I was dragging him to the concessions stand to meet Marie and accidentally made him run over this girl. You. He was so embarrassed!'

I thought back to high school football games. High school football games against Forest Lawn. There was one, junior year. Mrs. Glover, my biology teacher, had left her bag in the band room. Her husband was the band director and his directing gloves were in it. She had asked me to go get the bag for her, and she was closer to a friend than a teacher. So I'd taken off, weaving in and out of the crowd coming in from the parking lot.

I ran smack into someone's chest, someone taller. He was wearing an Atreyu shirt and jeans with worn black Converse and was stretched tall and thin. I looked up, my hands still on his chest, his bandaged hands gripping my forearms. Pale, pale skin and a thin angular face framed by messy fluffy chestnut hair and dark circles under his eyes. His eyes squeezed shut, his face contorting in a grimace before smoothing back out. He opened his eyes. They were honey colored and wide as they looked down at me. A girl who looked like she could be his sister was holding on to his shirt sleeve like she'd been pulling him.

"I'm sorry" I said as he slowly let go of me. I pulled my hands away from his chest and shoved them into my pockets, "I should've been looking where I was going."

A blush started on the boys cheeks as the girl called and walked away, faint but there. He opened his mouth to reply, but all that would come were stutters and stammers. He let out an exasperated sigh and took off in the direction of the girl, pushing through the crowd.

"Oh my god" I said and looked at Millie in shock, "How did you remember that?"

'Sometimes when I'm bored, I go through his memories. This one was way far in the back, in stuff he doesn't remember really. He's come such a long way, my baby brother.'

I started laughing then, having to double over to hold my stomach. Millie had essentially just confessed to reading Toby's diary.

'What?' Millie asked, bending to look at my face, confused, 'What is it, Grace?' I just kept laughing, seeing the irony in it all now. 'Damn it, Grace! What's so funny?'

I fought to contain yourself, taking deep slow breaths and finally said, "I remember him! I remember it all! I also remember crushing pretty hard on that unnamed boy with a stutter for a couple weeks after."

And then I was laughing again and so was Millie. We both sat there for a few moments before I heard Toby in the bedroom, "Grace?"

Millie dematerialized, gone suddenly, and I managed to get out, "In here" and then started working on controlling my laughter. I had just managed it when Toby came in to find me sitting, wrapped in a towel, on the edge of the tub. Unfortunately, Toby's vision was just good enough to see the tears from laughing so hard on my cheeks.

Toby rushed over, face worried and he bent over me to turn my face upward and wipe the tears away.

"What's wrong, sweetness?" He peppered my cheeks with kisses, "Why are you crying?"

I smiled and said, "I was laughing. With Millie."

Toby's body relaxed and he let out a relieved sigh. He kissed my forehead and then pulled away to smile crookedly down at me, "Laughing, huh? Must've been pretty funny." Curiosity gleamed in his eyes, and his expression was very interested. "What was it?"

A chuckle escaped me and I pushed it back down before the rest could bubble up, "Millie made me remember something. A guy I met in high school." Toby's posture stiffened, and I wondered what was wrong before realizing that Toby was jealous. Of himself. It burned in his eyes. A smile curled my lips, "I was helping one of my teachers at a game, junior year. I ran into this guy. He was tall and thin with dark hair." Toby was outright frowning now, not amused in the slightest. "He had these amazing honey colored eyes."

Toby's expression softened as he realized I was describing him and he let out a short laugh of disbelief, "And then when you apologized, all he could do was stutter like an idiot, and then run away?"

"You said the idiot part, not me, I thought it was cute." I stood up and rose to kiss Toby's crooked nose, "But you didn't have to run away."

Toby started laughing full out then, out of nowhere. He laughed so hard that he had to sit on the edge of the tub while he held his ribs. "I tried to-" Toby doubled over, a new wave of laughter hitting him, making me giggle. "I tried to tell-" the laughs were dying down into giggles and then spasms of the diaphragm and I patiently waited, trying not to laugh, thinking it would set both of us off again. Toby took some deep breaths and blinked wet eyes at me, shaking with one last spasm of laughter, "I just got done telling Tommy that I'm not good with dating advice. And that, what you just remembered, is proof." He hugged me to him, "You really thought I was cute?"

I laughed and looked up into Toby's eyes, remembering the color of them before the cataracts, "The cutest. I thought about you for a good two weeks."

"Only two weeks?" Toby teased, "'The cutest' only got two weeks?!"

"Well it's not like I had much to go on, ya know? Besides he's got me for life now."

Toby grinned down at me, "Given." He sighed, still teasing, "I guess I can overlook it. Besides, maybe I wasn't ready. I was a different guy back then, angry."

He bent his head and I rose up on my tiptoes to kiss him, tasting coffee and of all things, butterscotch candy on his lips. I pulled away in surprise, "Is that butterscotch? Candy? You?!" i picked up your pajamas and started putting them on, copper colored satin shorts and a camisole with black lace edging.

"I found them in the kitchen. Butterscotch is the best" Toby smiled, his eyes distant, "Mr. Crothers used to give them to me and Danny back... Before everything."

I was glad Toby had Mr. Crothers and Danny, but knew that arch of Toby's story was just as tragic, if not more. The man and his son had been closer to an actual family than his own had been.

"Butterscotch is pretty good... What else did you find in the kitchen?"

Toby grabbed my hand and pulled me into the bedroom. There was a basket sitting on the bed, an honest to gods picnic basket.

"I didn't know what to bring, so I brought a few things. Tommy found the basket so I wouldn't lose anything."

I opened the basket and found it was packed full. A few things indeed. There were four wrapped sandwiches, two marked with a sloppy T, the other two bearing and equally sloppy H, Toby's chickenscratch making another appearance. A covered bowl had chips in it. There were two Thermoses, and a few bottles of water. A little box with sugar and creamer packets sat next to a small carton of sweet cream. A covered plate bore cheese slices, fruit and cut vegetables. A small box was marked 'snickerdoodle' in an unfamiliar cursive script, probably labeled by a kitchen worker.

"There's tea in the Thermos, apple cinnamon, and I put some red hots in it. You can put however much sugar you want. Or there's coffee." Toby started sitting out everything on the desk.

"Geez Toby, we'll never be able to eat all of this." I picked up one of the sandwiches that I assumed was turkey and unwrapped it to take a bite. Turkey and swiss on fresh sourdough bread with crispy lettuce and the perfect amount of honey mustard. I covered my mouth to say, "This sandwich alone is massive."

Toby smiled, "I made them myself" and he started unwrapping another sandwich, this one ham. It had yellow cheese and what looked like barbecue sauce between the bread and lettuce. I sat the sandwich down and unscrewed the top of the thermos with tea in it and poured some in the lid/cup to taste. It actually didn't need any sugar at all and I poured an entire cup.

The two of us ate until I felt like I couldn't fit another bite and still Toby tried to convince me to eat more. I'd already eaten the sandwich, some of the chips, a few pieces of cheese, and half the fruit and vegetables.

"Are you sure? There's still a strawberry left. Big, juicy one too" Toby tempted.

I collapsed on my side of the bed, "Eat it for me, I don't have room left." Toby chuckled and put the berry down. He crawled up onto the bed beside me and laid down.

"I don't either" Toby sighed, rubbing his stomach. He'd actually eaten enough that it stuck out a little and I reached over to give it a gentle pat, "Oh no, don't sweetness" he laughed as he brought his knees up reflexively, "If you do that again, all the food will come up, I can feel it. Too full."

I yawned, "It's pretty late anyways. And I can feel a food coma coming."

Toby let out a snore and I laughed to myself as I cuddled into Toby's side and closed my eyes, sleep sucking at the edges of me.

I’m currently taking requests / asks for headcanons [ can be either NSFW or just in general or a specific idea ] or fluff/filth Alphabet letters. These are the only requests I plan on taking. If you send me prompts / one shot ideas.. I won’t do them, sorry.

Feel free to send me all the thots you want because I really really really really really enjoy writing them!!! Also, you can find the thots you’ve sent me on my nsfw masterlist, they’re not going anywhere. They were so good I had to add them to a masterlist somehow, I couldn’t resist. At everyone else out there, the same applies to you guys.]

So.. Here’s the thing.. I’ve decided that I’m going to be taking 3 kinds of requests. Those are as follows: Headcanons { filthy, fluffy or themed specifically at your choosing }, fluffy alphabet and filthy alphabet letters. These are the only kinds of request I answer so don’t send me prompts / one shot requests or ideas unless I specifically say otherwise.

Bearing the above in mind, I have some guidelines.

I’m only accepting headcanons (nsfw / fluff / specific theme &/or reader), fluffy or filthy alphabet letters. If you send me one shot ideas or prompts, I’m going to delete them because I don’t do one-shots.

One character per ask. I don’t care how many asks you send. But I ask that you only send one character per ask because that makes things a lot more simple for me.

You can send up to 4 letters in each ask if you’re asking for either version of the alphabet. Be sure to let me know whether you want filth or fluff or a mix of both. IE, you could send me something like this; character name - a, b {filth} & j v {fluff}. I’m not saying your ask has to look exactly like this but it does need to clearly state which version you’re asking for. The format I just did above was just the easiest way that came to mind for me.

The more precise you are with the headcanon requests you send, the better I can tailor them to you. If you just want an overall NSFW headcanon or overall fluff, that’s totally fine. But if you want a specific scenario ( friends to lovers, date night, weddings, the sky is the limit here) you need to tell me that. The same goes for if you want a specific reader (POC, plus size, sick, shy, virgin, imprint, etc) then I need to know that. It’s like I said.. The more specifics you give me, that’s more I have to work from.

As far as headcanons go, the things I won’t write are rape, incest / huge age gaps between reader / character. I’ll only write abuse if someone is getting their just desserts at the hands of character on readers behalf. Any asks containing rape / incest / huge age gaps are going to be deleted.

All asks must come to my inbox. I don’t take requests through DM or in comments on a post. If it helps, my anon is on, so you can request to your hearts content.

If the ask box is closed, this means I’m currently not taking headcanon or fluff/filth alphabet requests. This will also be noted on my blog bio and possibly a post stating why/for how long. Anything sent in after the ask box is closed will either be gotten to the next go around or it’ll be deleted, depending on the situation.

First of all... My content is meant strictly for adults. I do write some things that people underage can safely  read, but that is not always the case. I realize that I can’t stop minors from reading my work, but I can tell you outright that I’d rather you skip over it if you’re underage and it clearly states that it’s not written for anyone underage. Again.. I can’t do anything to stop minors from reading my NSFW content beyond just choosing never to post writing on the internet. And I don’t plan on stopping, so.. yeah.

I put warnings on everything. Reading those will definitely save you time and upset. If you keep reading something I’ve written and it upsets you in any way, I’m sorry but I can’t help. I warned you. You chose to take the risk -and most likely, you chose to skip the warning I gave before the post even started... It’s strictly on you now. It’s out of my hands. Any complaints or things of that nature are gonna be laughed at and deleted out of my inbox because I’m not here to argue or censor myself. I’m not your parents, just a peer. If you as a minor choose to look at me, an adult adjacent person, as an authority figure of any sort... First of all, why? Ya’ll.. no.. please don’t. I’m a hot mess, okay? To look at me like any trust worthy authority figure is... A huge error on your own part. Secondly, please don’t. I’m here to enjoy my favorite fandoms / post content for them. If I find out you’re a minor and I’m posting something NSFW for a fandom you’ve asked to be tagged in, I will not be tagging you. Sorry. As much as I say I’m not here to parent you and I’m just your peer and you need to think of me like that instead, I’m also not willing to risk anything, either. I’m truly sorry in advance.

I’m also not going to be writing huge age gaps in romantic stories either. (the closest I’ll come is like.. 18/19 and up to 24...) Jeff and I had a talk with Toby this morning, given Jeff's revelation the other night after our shower, when he thought I was asleep 💖

We had just gotten in from morning errands before the weekend started. We'd left immediately from the brownstone after our morning workout, back, butt, and abs day. Jeff was only just a little smelly but I'd gone noseblind to it almost immediately since I'd grown used to it in the week he'd been here. Grace why? Shh I'm remembering.

So after the bank, the vape store for Jeff black currant and aloe! and the dispensary, all still a few towns over, we were finally getting home. I'd sent a sort of mental ping to Toby, and he said he'd be able to stop by for an hour maybe to talk things through with Jeff and I.

Seven met us at the car, specifically the passenger's seat, spotted with blood and growling as Jeff cautiously opened the door.

"Seven!" I exclaimed, missing the big goofy puppy, "Seven, hush" he stopped growling but was still standing on point, hackles raised along his back, glaring at Jeff. "Seven, heel." He sat, relaxing visibly, "Darling, let him smell you."

Jeff stepped out of the passenger side and gently closed the door while he carefully extended his non dominant hand in case Seven bit. Seven sat as Jeff's fingers tentatively touched Seven's snout. Seven watched him with wary eyes. Let's talk about Seven really quick. Seven is a fawn colored labrador mastiff mix, all long goofy legs and big feet with big, soulful honey colored eyes that matched Toby's exactly. His head came up to my hips, but only mid thigh on Toby and Jeff. Seven relaxed completely and leaned into Jeff's hand as he scratched behind Seven's ear.

A low whistle sounded from the door and I turned to it. Toby stood in the doorway of the brownstone, smiling crookedly, and my eyes drank in the sight of him as he ate up the distance between us with long legs. He wore his usual working clothes, black jeans with a tight fitting black turtleneck. His chestnut hair was pulled back in a messy small bun at the back of his head. His honey brown eyes, no longer milky thanks to cataract surgery, flickered with excitement as he pulled me into his arms with a kiss. He kept it short and sweet, not a fan of public displays of affection past hugs and hand holding.

"How's my best girl?" he asked, lifting me from the ground like a doll, my toes barely touched the ground and swung me side to side before sitting me back down. Toby palmed the back of my head to brush his lips against my forehead as he focused on Jeff behind me. He released me as he walked past and I turned to see Jeff standing from where he had been petting Seven. They met in the middle and Toby pulled Jeff into a big man hug, clapping his back as Jeff blinked in surprise. Jeff slowly brought his arms up to pat Toby's shoulders awkwardly, confused.

"Hey Jeff, happy to see you're looking, frankly, a hell of a lot better than last time I saw you."

"Toby" I said, almost exploding with happiness at their reunion. I went a lot better than I'd thought. "Jeff doesn't remember a lot from back then. It's all broken up into pieces."

Toby looked at Jeff as if to say 'is this true?' and Jeff nodded, putting his hands in his pockets. "Yeah, and what I do remember is fuzzy at best."

Toby nodded sympathetically, "Yeah... I know how that is. I don't remember a lot from the early days."

The two had a moment of understanding before Toby started toward the house, clapping Jeff's shoulder as he passed, his touch lingering enough to give it a squeeze as he walked past. Jeff followed and I walked in between them, practically skipping as we walked inside.

Toby stayed leaned against the island bar, his eyes looking longingly at the couch he liked to nap on, but we both knew if he sat, he'd get knocked out by the wave of tiredness that chased him. I pulled up a stool next to him and Jeff sat across from us, still looking softly confused as he reached his arm across the granite to take my hand, playing with my fingers nervously.

"Why should you stay? Be part of our family?" Toby asked point blank, "I'd love to spend more time with this, and we will later, but I have an hour before Brian and I need to be somewhere."

"Of course" Jeff said understandingly and he straightened from his slouch, "One of the things I do remember from the war was Grace. She was who snapped me out of it, she got to me. I woke up in the middle of all that chaos and didn't know what was happening, just that I was choking on the evil in the air. And I knew it wanted everything here to suffer. I got the hell out of dodge, stole a car and drove until it ran out of gas and stole another one. I kept driving until I couldn't feel that evil anymore." Jeff laughed dryly, "Of course, it didn't stop him from finding me in my nightmares even months after your Mother put him back in the deep freeze. I had to listen to him plead and rage and finally cry himself to sleep." Jeff let go of my hand and raised his hands to spread them wide, "I'm a free agent again. But... In those bad times, I remembered Grace's words. They brought me comfort when nothing else could." Jeff's tone was getting excited as he leaned to look at both of us as Toby held me from the side, "A-a-and then I remembered a girl back in high school who always remembered what to say and it was Grace. I didn't know her long, but she seemed like she actually heard and understood me then too." He sighed and took my hand again, "How could I not want to have more of Grace after meeting her? You have to understand, Toby."

His eyes were pleading as he looked at Toby and I looked up at the man in question. Toby looked down at me, his eyes soft as he reached up to touch my cheek. He sighed on contact and looked back to Jeff.

"Plus, I'm actually pretty sure Grace is right. We're not so different you and I" Jeff smiled, "We could probably be close if we tried. And I can watch Grace's back for you while you're away, like now."

I looked back up at Toby and he leaned down to my ear. "What do you think, sweetness?" he whispered. I looked up at Toby and nodded once, not wanting to seem too eager. "Okay" Toby said, straightening. He walked around me and shook Jeff's hand before pulling me into a hug, "But if you do us wrong, you know what'll have to happen."

Jeff hugged Toby back, holding on tightly with his arms wrapped under his shoulders, "Never, even in my worst nightmares, would I dream of it, mon vieux." My old man, in French. *sniffles 🥺.

I flung myself to them, hugging both of them at the same time, snuggling my face where their arms met so they wouldn't see the happy tears in my eyes. Toby chuckled and I heard Jeff sniffle as he stood in the circle of our arms. Toby pulled away just enough for me to find Jeff's eyes also wet. Jeff cracked a wry smile and laughed as I reached to wipe a tear away. "I thought it was just you that was home, Grace," Jeff sighed, relaxing in our arms as we held him, "but maybe... Maybe it's both of you. Because this really does feel like home."
